Instep Curl - Individual Ball Striking Drill

The Skill

The instep curl is a way to pass, shoot or cross with both accuracy and power. By putting side spin on the ball it makes it curl and this allows you to bend a pass around the defence, whip a ball into the box or bend a free kick around the wall.

The Drill

Start with the ball on the floor and using your instep pass the ball into the Spot. To make it curl push your instep across the back of the ball so it spins inward and curls the same way. Your pass needs to come back within the coned area. Take a touch then repeat the pass with your other foot. To complete the drill you need to be able to strike the ball so that it comes back within the coned area 5 times on your right foot and 5 times on your left foot. Start over if you miss or if the ball goes out of the coned area. As you improve move back to increase the difficulty until you can achieve the Pro target playing behind the 6m line.
