DRILLS

Side On Volley - Individual Volley Drill

The Skill

The side-on-volley is mainly used as a shot on goal but can also be a way to make a long clearance. You will use this skill when you don't have time to take the ball under control. This is usually because you are being closed down by an opposing player and you want to get your shot off quickly.

The Drill

Start from the 2-3m line by throwing the ball into the air so it bounces directly in front of the rebounder. As the ball reaches the top of the bounce turn to the side and pivot your hips to hit the ball with your laces. The aim is to work on your technique and accuracy first then build up the power of your shot when the technique is correct. Catch the ball after your shot or let it go over your head and repeat. When you start to improve move further back. Work on both your left and right feet.
